4. Facts about living in the South Side
The South Side, a neighborhood located across from downtown Pittsburgh, is divided into two sub-neighborhoods, South Side Flats and South Side Slopes. The South Side has a business district along East Carson Street. The neighborhood is also home to almost 100 bars and pubs, making it a well-known neighborhood to visit for a fun night out.

A woman left this recent comment on a posting on the Pittsburgh subreddit:
“I live in the south side and am a quiet professional. I love it for: amazing walkability, access to nature (Ss park is 65 acres and is undergoing serious revitalization, and the river trail access is great), wonderful caring community (seriously), and centrality to the rest of Pittsburgh. The most wild times are warm nights after 9-10 pm on Friday and Saturday near Carson St, especially between 12-18 street. It can be loud in that area. 100% of the people I know in the SS want peace and more calm - and are demanding changes to preserve the peace on the weekends. The folks who live in the neighborhood are a different vibe than those who come here to party, so Fri/Sat is not indicative of the neighborhood the rest of the time. That being said, east of the Birmingham bridge is a LOT quieter than 12-18 st. There’s a lot of developments happening here with southside works and other projects. I also like the slopes. There are many stairs which make the flats accessible by foot. I have never felt unsafe in the day and early evening by myself as a woman.”

8. Pittsburgh the new Hollywood?
Pittsburgh has become a budding new city for film-making in the past couple of decades. Starting in 1914 with The Perils of Pauline, Pittsburgh has had a steady increase in the number of projects filmed in the city. One critic even stated in a November 2010 Hollywood Reporter article that Pittsburgh was “evidently Hollywood’s favorite location.” Some notable films that Pittsburgh has hosted in recent decades include Night of the Living Dead (1968), Flashdance (1983), and One For the Money (2012). With the construction of several multi-million dollar film studios at the late and great RIDC Carrie Furnace (projected to have a completion date in 2024) Pittsburgh just might become “Hollywood on the Mon”.

11. Some background on Carpio as a surname, Italian conquistadors in Ecuador
“Carpio” is a habitational name from El Carpio, a village in the Valladolid province of Spain or any of various places in southern Spain named with a regional term meaning ‘hill’ as for example Carpio-Bernardo.

Italians were first seen immigrating to Ecuador in the 19th century. A majority of these immigrants were sailors, and first sailed into Chilean ports before migrating north to Peru and Ecuador. Once in Ecuador, a majority of the Italian immigrants settled in Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador. In 1921, the Italians founded the first financial company, "La Previsora", and since Guayaquil is a port city, began developing a plan to market Ecuadorian cocoa to the world. Unfortunately, the United States and its oil companies blocked and prevented the Italians’ efforts to do so. There are currently almost 56,000 descendants of Italians in Ecuador.

12. Incas in Ecuador (he found out he's like 60% indigenous from 23 & me)
The Inca originally appeared in a small area of Peru in the 12th century, but began expanding north in the early 15th century. In 1463 the Inca warrior Pachacuti and his son Topa Yupanqui began conquering Ecuador. By the end of 15th century, despite fierce resistance by several Ecuadorian tribes, Huayna Capac, Topa Yupanqui’s son, conquered all of Ecuador. The Inca ruled the Ecuadorian Kingdoms until the arrival of Francisco Pizarro, Diego de Almargo and a force of Spanish conquistadors in 1532.

17. Compare the sensation of skydiving vs bungee jump vs Nevis Swing
The general consensus on the internet is that bungee jumping is much scarier than skydiving, and that there is a bigger adrenaline rush with it. Some common reasons why bungee jumping is scarier (from people who have done both) are the lower altitude, the stretchy-ness of the cord causes more opportunities for that “stomach drop” feeling, and that bungee jumping is typically done solo, as opposed to skydiving that is typically done with a second person strapped in with you. Multiple people also noted the “failsafe” if you will, of having a parachute while skydiving. I couldn’t really find any accounts of people who have tried the Nevis Swing as well as the other two mentioned thrills, but there are several accounts of people that have done the Nevis Swing and most of them said it was terrifying. I did find one account from someone that had actually done all three and they said this:
“I did this upside down and backwards. (in reference to the Nevis Swing) Super fun. Also went skydiving and bungee jumping that trip. Skydiving and canyon swinging are cakewalks compared to bungee jumping.”
Bethany actually did the Nevis Swing while on her trip to New Zealand earlier this year. If you want a personal account of what it’s like, she has several posts about it on her instagram, and even a story highlight called “Nevis Swing” that has an in-depth account of the whole experience. You can find her instagram here.
18. How high is the Nevis Swing drop and arc?
The Nevis Swing is located in Queenstown, New Zealand. It is a giant, bungee-like swing run by AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand. It has a drop of 70 meters (about 230 feet) and an arc of 300 meters (about 984 feet)

19. Adventure place in Ecuador that has a rope jump from bridge, not quite bungee
Couldn’t find one specific company that does this like with the Nevis Swing, but there is a bridge in Baños, Ecuador called San Francisco bridge that is a popular site for bridge jumping. There are two ropes anchored to the underside of the bridge that then get attached to the person jumping. Because of the position of the ropes, the jumper does a swing-shaped pendulum. Therefore, it is sometimes called “swing jumping”. The jump from the bridge is 100 meters (about 328 feet) and is positioned over the Pastaza River.
